These free workshops discuss Advance Care Planning, the process of determining your future medical care if you are incapable of speaking for yourself. Workshop participants will learn about drafting an advance directive, which includes a Living Will and the appointment of a health care agent.
CaringMatters (formerly Hospice Caring, Inc.) was been awarded a grant from the State of Maryland Department of Health to provide a series of community engagement activities within the counties of Montgomery, Frederick, and Prince Georges in Maryland, between April 2018 and March 2019. The goal of the community engagement activities is to increase general awareness about advance directives and to promote attitude and behavior change around completing advance directives, particularly electronic advance directives.
With funding from this grant, CaringMatters is offering free workshops to community organizations, business and informal groups in the above Maryland counties.
Workshop participants will learn ...
- The importance of appointing a health care agent and the types of decisions they can make for you
- Available tools and resources, both paper and electronic, to help you complete an advance directive
- How to discuss your end-of-life wishes with loved ones so you can successfully complete your advance directive
Typical workshops run from 60 - 90 minutes and can be offered during the day or the evening. Contact Leigh Bluestein at leighb@CaringMatters.org or 301-990-7927 for more information or to schedule an advance care planning workshop.
